"I see the center as belonging to them. It is like a family where they are no longer isolated and alone and where we accept them for who they are..."

Persaud

In Memoriam: Me Rajpattie Persaud

Lawyer, long-serving Board member, Legal Information Clinic supervisor and devoted friend of Chez Doris, she left us suddenly in August, taking with her a piece of our hearts. We want to offer our condolences to her family, friends and those who benefited from her valuable advice. Chez Doris is grateful for the donations received in her memory.

'TEA TIME' FUNDRAISING EVENT FOR THE BENEFIT OF CHEZ DORIS FOUNDATION

More than 100 guests assembled at the Tudor Hall of Ogilvy’s on May 29th to bring financial support to the mission of Chez Doris. The financial objective doubled on this 2nd edition of the event and reached a total of $13,280.

Our special guest, Mrs. Sophie Grégoire, joined us and talked about the alienation individuals suffer when they are in difficulty. Thanks to Chez Doris, the women are protected, fed and have a chance to regain their dignity.

We would like to thank everyone that participated in the success of the event and hope you will join us next year for another edition of Chez Doris ‘Tea Time’.

Chez Doris, a women's shelter.

Chez Doris is a non-profit organization that offers educational and recreational activities, social services and professional services for women in need.

Doris' violent tale is heartbreaking. There are still, however, many women just like Doris who are on the street, living with uncertainty and extreme poverty. Many roads lead them to Chez Doris: they find themselves destitute and vulnerable due to sickness, job loss, divorce, the difficult economic situation and more, subsisting and surviving in misery. Chez Doris embraces these women, comforting them, listening to them and taking care of them.

Chez Doris welcomes women who come to the house to take part in a variety of activities, make use of professional services, eat a hot meal, get a little sleep and a change of clothes, be called by their names and, for a time, feel like ordinary people.

Chez Doris is open 7 days a week and nearly 100 women arrive at our doors every day. The shelter survives on the generosity of the community and we would like to thank all our donors, including Centraide, Agence de la santé et des services sociaux du Québec, the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation, Ville de Montréal and the George Hogg Family Foundation. Without these organizations and individuals to support our goals, we would not be able to continue our work and so we thank you all!
